Cornwall walking and social weekend

Overview

Cornwall is a beautiful part of the country and has so much to see: Lovely fishing villages, pretty harbours, dramatic and stunning coastal paths with breathtaking scenery.

Each day there will be a walk followed by the opportunity to spend time looking around the local area. We will concentrate on the South Cornwall area taking in lovely fishing villages such as Fowey, Polperro and Looe. As well as beautiful coastal walking there will be a walk on Bodmin Moor.

An ideal time to go is slightly out of the main season so the roads should be better and without the hoards of tourists, but we should still have good weather.

On the social side there is also plenty to do for non walkers or if you want to mix & match walking with social / tourist stuff. We are close to many Cornish attractions such as The Eden project, Lanhdyrock House, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Charlestown Harbour & Bodmin Moor.

Any walking programme will be designed to be flexible and accommodate the groups’ requirements.

The Detail

Variations:

  • One of our sample walking tours is…
  • Day 1: Fowey and Polkerris – These are two of the many must see pretty fishing villages and Fowey has everything you would expect; A harbour, a selection of pubs and tea shops, gift shops, boat trips and lots to explore after the walk. Much of the walk will be along the coastal path, with lots of variety; ranging from high cliffs with the sea crashing on the rocks below to beach level walking. One of the features is Gribbin Head, a distinctive red & white daymark tower.
  • The full walk is around 8 miles, returning inland to make a nice change from the dramatic coastal scenery. There is an option of a shorter 5 mile walk.
  • Day 2: Bodmin Moor – One of the days we can take a break from coastal walking to discover Bodmin Moor, which has many attractions such as panoramic views, wild moorland, granite tors, ruined old mine buildings, following rivers and brooks through lovely valleys to name a few. The walk is from Minions, one of the highest villages in Cornwall (but we start high up!). The main walk is a moderate 6 miles with the option of a further 2 miles to discover the famous Cheesewring, a dramatic rock formation and The Hurlers Stone Circle
  • Day 3: Polperro & Looe – two more must sea Cornish fishing villages. This is a linear walk. We start by walking into the village and then onto the coastal path. Again the terrain ranges from dramatic coastal paths to sea level walking. We will have time to discover Looe and its lovely harbour and town before we get the bus back to Polperro.
